Cat Condo’s Can Keep Your Cat Off Of The Furniture
Posted by admin on January 3, 2010Nothing is more upsetting than seeing your cat dig into your favorite piece of furniture. One of the toughest things to do when you want to leave their claws in is train them not to dig on the carpet or the furniture. One thing that has proven to be very effective is a cat condo or cat tree.
A cat condo can do wonders when trying to train your cat to stay off of the furniture. They can be purchased as small as a foot or so and can be well over seven foot high for the more expensive ones. Because they have scratching posts, toys and different levels, the cat should be more than happy to vacate the sofa and move on to the new cat condo.
The cat condo’s can be found readily on the Internet and are in all shapes and sizes. The smallest ones that have only one tier can be found for about $20. If you want to get a true palace for your cat, you can get something in the $200 range that will have every cat in the neighborhood in a jealous fit.
In order to get the cat to use this as their perch, it may take just a bit of training. This can be achieved in a variety of ways. To get them to use this instead of the furniture to sharpen their claws, bring them over to one of the posts and press the center of their paw to extend their claws. You can literally help them dig into the post and then reward them.
When looking to get them off of the furniture, feed them their treats every day on the cat condo. Instead of hand feeding or throwing them on the floor, we sprinkled them across the top of the cat tree. Now instead of trying to get her up there, she runs and sits up there first thing in the morning waiting for her treats to be put out.
As far as an investment goes, it will probably be one of the more expensive items that you buy for the cat, but it is well worth it. Instead of replacing a $2,000 sofa, you can spend 10% of that and have something that the cat will truly love. Put it near a window so that they can peer out and they will be in their new cat condo for the entire day.
